Ivanpah is a small unincorporated community located in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California. The community is located at the southeast end of the Ivanpah Valley, near the Nevada border. Ivanpah is primarily known for being the location of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, one of the world's largest solar thermal power plants. The plant covers 3,500 acres and is capable of producing 392 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 140,000 homes. The community is also known for its proximity to the Mojave National Preserve and the local attractions, such as the Primm Valley Resort and Casino and the nearby Ivanpah Dry Lake. The population of Ivanpah is less than 200 people with very limited services.
